Applications

Planetary ball mills are smaller than common ball mills and widely used in academic and research institutions and corporate research laboratories for grinding sample material down to very small sizes(~0.1 micron). They can be used for mixing, homogenizing, fine grinding, mechanical alloying, cell disruption, small volume high-tech material production and even for colloidal grinding. They are the ideal wet/dry milling tools for preparing research samples with high efficiency and low noise. Vacuum jars may be used to process samples within a vacuum environment.

Operational Principle:

A planetary ball mill consists of four grinding jars, which are arranged eccentrically on a so-called Sun-Wheel. The direction of movement of the Sun-Wheel is opposite to that of the grinding jars. The grinding balls in the grinding jars are subjected to superimposed rotational movements, the so-called Coriolis forces. The difference in speeds between the balls and grinding jars produces an interaction between frictional and impact forces, which releases high dynamic energies. Minimum granularity of the final product can be as small as 0.1 micron.

A timer controls running times from 1 to 999 minutes; it also controls the jars direction of rotation and intervals.
